Aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between a video's width and height, expressed as W:H. 16:9 is the standard widescreen format used by YouTube and most modern displays. 9:16 (vertical) is used by TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. 1:1 is square, common for Instagram posts.
Safe zones are inset areas of the frame where text and important graphics should stay to avoid being cropped by different screen sizes or overlaid by platform UI elements (like TikTok's caption area or YouTube's subscribe button). A typical safe zone is 90% of the frame width/height, centered.
YouTube recommends 1920×1080 (1080p) as the minimum for HD quality, and 3840×2160 (4K/UHD) for the highest quality. Always export at 16:9 aspect ratio for standard landscape videos. For Shorts, use 1080×1920 (9:16 vertical).
