About UV Checker Textures

What is a UV checker texture?

A UV checker (or UV grid) is a test texture applied to a 3D mesh to verify that UV coordinates are correctly unwrapped. Distorted squares, stretched labels, or misaligned lines indicate UV mapping errors that need correction before texturing.

Which software can I use this with?

Any 3D application that accepts PNG textures: Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, ZBrush, Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, and more. Import the PNG as a material texture and apply it to your mesh.

What resolution should I use?

For quick checks during modeling, 512×512 is sufficient. For final UV review before texturing, use 1024×1024 or 2048×2048 to clearly see small details and label positions.

How do I read the UV coordinates?

Each cell shows its U (horizontal, 0–1 left to right) and V (vertical, 0–1 bottom to top) position. If labels appear squished or rotated on your model, that area of the UV map needs to be adjusted.
